Sayed Waked

Sayed Waked Artist

Egyptian Glass Sculptor | Innovator in Contemporary Art

Sayed Waked, born in May 1976, is an accomplished Egyptian sculptor specializing in contemporary glass art. A graduate of the Faculty of Specific Art Education at Cairo University, Waked’s rural upbringing greatly influenced his artistic vision, inspiring him to explore nature and experiment with various materials. His artistic journey began as a designer in a flame-powered glass factory, where he mastered techniques such as glass forming, engraving, and decoration.

Since 2007, Waked has devoted himself entirely to the art of glass sculpting. His works range from pure abstraction to personalized forms, crafted in transparent or opaque glass, often enhanced with colors, silver, and gold. For Waked, glass transcends aesthetics, serving as a medium to express collective human emotions and relationships. He views its transparency as transformative, likening it to water and its ability to reshape space. “What attracts me most about glass is its resemblance to water... its transparency makes me feel as though I am reshaping space itself, a concept vastly different from traditional sculpting materials,” Waked explains.

Waked has participated in five solo exhibitions and over 36 group exhibitions, including the Salon of Small Artworks (2001) and international events in Italy, Bulgaria, and Turkey. His sculptures have been showcased in prominent institutions, including the Museum of Modern Egyptian Art, the Ministry of Culture in Egypt, and the British and Czech embassies in Cairo.

A pioneer in glass sculpture, Sayed Waked continues to push the boundaries of its artistic applications, celebrating the material’s aesthetic qualities while addressing profound humanistic themes. His work leaves a lasting impact on audiences worldwide.
